When opening their new RPM room at the Leith Victoria Swim Centre, Edinburgh Leisure wanted a little extra impact to their classes. RPM consists of a high octane workout on special exercise bikes to a 45 minute track of music to set the scene.
To add an extra dimension to the classes Edinburgh leisure approached Solas to add specialist lighting to the mix.
Working to a tight budget Solas specified a row of 18 high output RGB LED units to wash the back wall with intense colours. The colours are designed and controlled to match the music during each part of the exercise routine. To ensure maximum impact the main lights are switched off - 1w Blue LEDs are embedded into the ceiling above each bike to illuminate their displays.
Is it un-environmentally friendly to use extra lighting just for effect?
The complete installation uses less than 75w, similar to a single ‘normal’ light bulb or each of the three fluorescent fittings used while cleaning.
